We measured polyethylene wear in 223 uncemented acetabular cups. We divided the hips into 4 groups according to methods of fixation of femoral components and the size of proshetic femoral heads used, i.e., group A: uncemented 32mm
head(n=19), Group B: uncemented 28mm head(n=95), Group C: hybrid 32mm head(n=19), Group D: hybrid 28mm head(n=18), Follow-up range was from two years to eight years and five months (arverge four years and one month).
The significant differeces of linear wear rates were noted between group A(0.23mm/year) and group B(0.14mm/year)(P<0.01), between group C(0.16mm. year) and group D(0.15mm/year)(p<0.05), and between group A and group C(p<0.01).
However the difference between group B and group D was not statistically significant.
These resu?s can be compared with other previously reported results, and the higher rates, especially of group A may jeopareize the long term results of uncemented total hip arthroplasty using 32mm femoral head.
